So Savate is French foot-fighting. It started out as a convenient skill for street thugs to kick the crap out of gentlemen and steal their money. Then gentlemen learned it to kick the crap out of muggers.
But then the gentlemen of Paris started using it kick the crap out of each other in the streets (the thought of the streets of Paris looking like a Kung Fu movie cracks me up), open fighting was outlawed.
So then, savateurs developed “lutte Parisienne”, Parisian wrestling, which was grappling with the techniques hidden.
The thought of French gentlemen “accidentally” bumping into each other and one of them gets his neck broken cracks me up more. How do you say, “I don’t see what happened. I think he fell,” in French?
